If you do not know the importance of Structured Data Markup markup for SEO ranking than you must read this post. You can never gain ranking without Structured data markup. I started blogging and went through the importance and have practically tested the concept.
What is Structured Data Markup
Structured data is information organized in enormous online databases that help to serve search results for users. Structured data markup language is a universally shared language format that assist search engines understand and return the best results for users who are searching for data relevant data.
In simple words, why you search in search engines? definitely to get the information more relevant for you. No one will happy if search engines are incapable to display relevant information to you.
Enhancing the Presentation of Search Results: By including basic structured data which is appropriately to your content, you can enhance site search results with Breadcrumbs, Sitelinks Search Box or Rich Snippets.
What Technical Skills Do You Need?
Do you need any technical k knowledge or need to hire any freelancer for this? Really not.
There are two ways to implement Structured Data markup your data using the schema.org vocabulary, use any one of them.
- Using Microdata – Google prefers microdata for web content.
- Using JSON-LD
1. Microdata – A HTML code nested entities and referred items. It helps crawlers/Google bot to understand the type and identity of the certain data points, and then deliver results to users.

Next step is to add the Microdata to your post/page. Please note if you are using a premium theme which is SEO friendly then you do not have to follow the below-explained steps.
Using the Structured Data Markup Helper
#1: Open the Markup Helper using below URL
Sign into your Google account in order to use the tool if not already.
You will see the screen:
#2: Choose to Add Structured Data Markup to a Web Page or E-Mail
Structured data markup works on web pages or emails. I will demonstrate here about Web Page Markup for Email Markup You can read more about email markup in Google’s webmaster article.
#3: Identify, What Kind of Data Type you are going to Use
Now, you have to select a data type. This is a simple category your page well defines itself.
Google wants to understand how your data is categorized. therefore, simply decide what you want to markup. You have ten choices available:
- Book Reviews
- Local Businesses
- Software Applications
- TV Episodes
- TV Episodes with Ratings
I am going to use the article in below example.
#4: Paste “URL” or “HTML” of the Web Page
Paste the HTML if you have not published the page yet. else use the page “URL”. I am using my already published URL long back. Now click on “start tagging.” You will be see the start tagging data as shown.
#5: Select the Data and Identify the Data Items
See the screen below, next step is to select the data on the page using the mouse and tag it with the Data Item. I have selected the Page Title (1) and will select the “Name” (2). Name is required and rest Data Items are optional but recommend.
You can repeat the section using mouse click and select the items one by one.
Next, you shall look for the author, then date published, image, article selection, Article body, URL and so on. The more data you can tag, the better.
Using this method you can simply highlight every element and add it. But what when you have to add a tag which you cannot highlight on your page.
That’s where you can use the “Add Missing Tags” button at the bottom of “My Data Items” in the right panel. Let’s understand to use this.
Click on add missing tag and you will see the window. now select the tag using selection box and fill the desired value in the provided text field (Add tag).
The example below is showing rating value tag which I want to add.
Once you have tagged all relevant data, you are ready to view the HTML page having microdata.
#6: Creating HTML
Now Click “Create HTML” in the upper right corner.
Once you do so, the right panel converts to an HTML display panel.
see the arrow as shown, the places have microdata in the HTML version now.
#7: Download MicroData HTML file
Now, you can download the HTML file and use replace the existing file with the downloaded one.
NOTE: You can remove Microdata markup added by Google Structured Data Markup Helper note, this is just for information purpose.
#8: Testing the Markup – Microdata file
This Testing Tool allows you to check the accuracy.
